About us ?

Our Bioinformatics Group is composed by about 40 members from two bioinformatics labs of Institute of Biophysics (IBP) and Institute of Computing Technology (ICT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). We mainly study on protein-protein interaction network, ncRNAs prediction and function analysis, SNPs analysis, RNA and protein second structure prediction, and developing new algorithm for string analysis of biological sequence.

We are currently focused on the following fields:

1. Protein-protein interaction network in yeast: Interaction detection methods have led to the discovery of thousands of interactions between proteins, and discerning relevance within large-scale data sets is important to present-day biology. Spectral analysis and clustering analysis were introduced to find the cliques in the network based on topological structure. We also developed a viewed platform to s0.ee sub topological structures of the protein-protein network (http://www.bioinfo.org.cn/PIN/).

2. Prediction of new ncRNA genes: creating novel prediction algorithms to predicting ncRNA genes from public genome or transcript data.

3. Biological experiment analyzing function of ncRNAs: large scale screening and analyzing new ncRNAs in C. elegans and human tissues.

4. SNPs analysis: many diseases, such as hypertension and coronary heart disease, are related more than one gene. To these complex disease, SNPs analysis is important in finding their pathogeneses.

5. Prediction of protein and RNA structures: It is of great significance to develop an efficient software system for higher-level structural prediction in RNA/protein sequences.

6. Algorithms for biological sequence analysis: we focus on sequence alignment and DNA sequence assembling. Strategy of local search is introduced to find shortest superstring.
